ABOUT GOSPEL MISSION
Many years ago a man in the U.S.A. had a desire to put out the gospel throughout the world by printing and publishing books of writings, sermons, autobiographies, letters etc. of many of the old Puritan and reformed writers from the past centuries, at the cheapest possible price to make them available to as many people as possible. With much prayer and guidance for all that was needed, including finance, he looked to his Lord for help.
The man was Mr. Henry Bouma, who later became pastor of Old Paths Strict Baptist Church in Choteau, Montana. He, and some of his brothers and other members of this large family were involved in this large set up.
Gospel Mission is an outreach of Old Paths Strict Baptist Church. The name ‘Old Paths’ is taken from the Bible, Jeremiah ch. 6 v 16, and this declares our position and aim – to walk in the old paths or ways – God’s ways. We are affiliated to the Gospel Standard Strict Baptists in England where there are about one hundred churches, and we have three in the U.S.A. two in Australia, and one in Canada.
And so Gospel Mission was set up, printing some of the books on a printing press they obtained. After a while Pastor Bouma was able to buy the hospital building in Choteau, as the hospital moved to a new site. A lot of work was needed to be done to adapt this building into offices and storerooms and many shelves to display the books. The Lord favored them with help and finance and all that was needed to present Gospel Mission.
Today we are still in the same old hospital building, but we do not print any of the books now. This is done by a printing company which took over the work.
Pastor Henry Bouma passed away nearly eighteen years ago, but the Mission he began still carries on. We have a minimum of staff and are grateful to volunteers who lovingly give of their time and services, and we keep our expenses to a minimum. The Lord is good. He is the same God who enabled Pastor Bouma many years ago to set up the book room, and still is helping us today.
We have about 2,000 different titles of Christian books including children’s books, sermons, autobiographies, commentaries, Bibles, hymnbooks, coloring books and cards. We only use the King James Authorised Version, and keep to old reformed works, following the Scripture line from the Apostles. Most of the books are from England and the U.S.A. giving competitive prices, we can send you a current flyer which has our special offers, or you can go online to our website and see the full range of books. you can make good use of it. We welcome orders online, but we also take telephone orders/enquiries, or by mail to: Gospel Mission Inc. P O Box 318, Choteau, MT, 59422. Our telephone number is 406 466 2311.
We are mainly mail order, but we welcome visitors from near and far to come and browse through the books. We are situated on the Rocky Mountain Front where the Rockies meet the plains in a lovely area. We would suggest anyone who is interested in coming here to telephone first 406 466 2311, as the book store is not staffed all the time. We also welcome visitors to our Church, also in Choteau. Our services are on Sundays 10.00 a.m. and 3.00 p.m. and Wednesday evenings (usually) at 7.30 p.m.
We would take this opportunity to thank all our loyal customers who have supported us during the past years, and say that we appreciate you all. It is very expensive to print our own books and we welcome any donations or contributions towards the cost of this. Your prayers are most needful, as you may be led to pray. Our staff are kept to a minimum, and we are thankful to the volunteers who give of their time and all who give an interest in this work. We pray the Mission may continue as long as the Lord be with us.
Lastly but not least, we desire to give all thanks and all the glory to our Lord God who has enabled this Mission work to continue, especially in the dark days in which we live. The need is greater than ever to get the gospel to as many places as the Lord would have it.
